OTHER Anderlecht were offered a lot of strikers on Monday after Mbaye Diagne dropped out. Famara Diédhiou was the most concrete. Het Nieuwsblad knows that. Anderlecht made an offer for the 26-year-old striker from Bristol. The English made a counter-move, but in the end there was no transfer.
Two years ago, Diédhiou went from Angers to Bristol for six million euros. In the English second division, he scored thirteen times in the last two seasons. Other strikers that were offered, according to Het Nieuwsblad, include Khouma Babacar (Sassuolo), Lois Diony (Saint-Etienne) and Seydou Doumbia (transfer-free, ex-Roma and Newcastle).
To pay him, or another striker, Anderlecht also hoped to sell a player for around five million euros to have the money for a new striker. Trebel was pushed towards Nantes, but in vain.
In the end, Anderlecht decided not to get another striker. "There were no better options available to build an even stronger team," said Verschueren in Het Laatste Nieuws.
