Costly points loss for Anderlecht

GAMES Anderlecht missed out on a crucial opportunity in the title race after only managing a 1-1 draw against Cercle Bruges. Despite taking the lead through Stroeykens, Anderlecht struggled for most of the second half, with Daland equalizing shortly after halftime. Cercle looked more energetic than Anderlecht, who were saved multiple times by goalkeeper Coosemans. Although Anderlecht woke up in the final stages with some substitutions, they were unable to find a winning goal despite a few excellent chances.

The match started at a low pace for an injury-plagued Anderlecht, but they took the lead in the 11th minute through Stroeykens.

Anderlecht maintained control but were given a scare just before halftime when Denkey missed a golden chance to equalize. At the end of the first half, Anderlecht also missed two chances to double the lead.

The second half saw a more energized Cercle side, with Daland scoring the equalizer. Anderlecht struggled to create chances and were fortunate that Denkey missed a few opportunities.

Despite some late chances for Anderlecht - with a miss of Angulo, Delaney failing to push the ball over the line from short distance and a disallowed goal of Amuzu for offside - they were unable to find a winning goal.

The draw was a disappointing result for Anderlecht, who needed a win against Cercle to maintain their title challenge. With a tough schedule ahead and ongoing injury concerns, Anderlecht face a crucial match against Union next weekend.
