GAMES The phase in which Racing Genk was not allowed to retake the penalty is causing a lot of controversy. It is not even impossible that the match will have to be (partially) replayed. Not only did Sor enter the penalty area too early, but Yari Verschaeren was also too quick. And that is precisely where the shoe pinches. When players of both clubs enter the penalty area too early, the penalty has to be replayed. Since a mistake was made against the rules, it seems likely that this will be followed up.

Let's recap briefly. Genk gets to 0-1 after a goal by Sor. Schmeichel stops Heynen's penalty, but the leather lands at the feet of Sor who scores. Then followed a VAR moment.

After Verboomen disallowed Sor's 0-1, Genk suddenly got a second chance from the spot. The Anderlecht players thought that was really too crazy and Verboomen corrected his decision. Anderlecht now got a free kick. There would have been no problem, had it not been for the fact that Verschaeren also reacted too quickly and was just inside the penalty area. When players from both teams enter the penalty area too quickly when taking a penalty kick, it must be retaken.

In 2020, Virton - Beerschot was replayed because Virton had scored the only goal after a referee error.
