INTERVIEWS With an early goal, Mario Stroeykens showed Anderlecht the way against KV Mechelen. His sixth goal for the A-team and his fourth against Malinwa. "Mechelen indeed suits me," he told afterwards. "However, I wasn't thinking about it beforehand, but Jan Vertonghen reminded me during the match."

Before last night, Stroeykens' goal counter stood at five: last season he opened his account on Oct. 9 with two goals at KV Mechelen. He then scored in the cup against Lierse and in the league against Seraing. Number five followed at the end of April in the home game against Mechelen.

"I had no premonition at all that he would score again today. That I set him up was a purely tactical choice," laughed coach Brian Riemer after the match. The Dane explained that he wanted a lot of ball possession in midfield and that Stroeykens has that going for him. "Moreover, he has been achieving a high level at training for a long time," the coach said.

"It was a surprise that I started in the starting lineup," Stroeykens revealed. This time he played as the central, most offensive pawn in midfield. Is this his best position? "This place suits me, but I can also play on the wings and the coach knows that. Oh well, doesn't matter to me where I play. As long as I can help the team."
