GAMES Anderlecht couldn't win the Belgian Cup last Monday. The Mauves were beaten on penalties with 4-3 against AA Ghent. After extra time, the match was still tied (0-0).

Ghent proved to be the best team in this Cup final. The Flemish team dominated the midfield most of the match and also had the best chances. In the first half, a goal of Bezoes didn't count because he was caught offside. Before that, Ngadeu had already tested Van Crombrugge. Anderlecht had one good chance through Verschaeren but he was stopped by goalkeeper Roef. Olsson and Refaelov also had chances, but they were hardly dangerous.

Ghent dominated the second half, but there weren't many chances. De Sart, Nurio and Odjija had the best opportunities to score; Anderlecht didn't produce any real danger. So extra time had to decide over the match. Anderlecht seemed to take the upper hand and now controlled the midfield while Ghent had used too much energy. Kouamé had a good opportunity to give Anderlecht the lead but he aimed over the crossbar. Lemajic hit the bar for Ghent.

With a scoreless draw on the board after 120 minutes, penalties had to decide. Both teams scored the first three penalties, but then Cullen missed. Van Crombrugge kept Anderlecht alive with a crucial save on Ngadeu's penalty shot, but Murillo's effort was too weak and he also missed: 4-3.
