Anderlecht forget to finish off Bruges

GAMES RSC Anderlecht faced Club Bruges in today's match. The game was Bruges last chance to return into the title race and they needed a victory for it. Anderlecht on the other hand could win the title with a victory. The match ended in a 1-1 draw though. Next week, Anderlecht have another chance to win the title, as they just need two more points.

Anderlecht started with Thelin in the team instead of Teodorzcyk. Bruges started with Touba instead of Cools. The other ten players of both teams were as expected.

The match started at high intensity. Izquierdo had the first chance for the home side, but it was Hanni who scored at the other side with a free kick: 0-1. Bruges had to react, but didn't find a solution on Anderlecht's defensive block. The Mauves tried to counter attack whenever possible through the fast Acheampong, but there weren't any real chances for quite a while. Shortly before the break, Spajic made an unnecessary foul just outside the box. Vormer scored from the resulting free kick: 1-1. Bruges increased the pace for the remaining minutes of the first half, but couldn't score anymore.

The home side also started with a lot of pressure forward in the second half. Rotariu and Vanaken both had excellent chances in the first five minutes, but they aimed too high. After those chances, Anderlecht took control over the match again. Teodorzcyk, who had replaced Thelin, immediately had a great chance, but keeper Horvath saved. A few minutes later, Acheampong broke through on a counter attack and was brought down in the box by Engels: penalty! Tielemans took the penalty but his shot was aimed right in the middle of the goal and Horvath saved. Anderlecht wouldn't get a better chance anymore to score. Bruges tried with a final offensive, but Anderlecht defended well.

With this draw, Bruges remain 4 points behind Anderlecht. With just two matches left, Anderlecht only need two more points to win the title. The Mauves have another chance in Charleroi and if necessary on Sunday against Ostend.
