Anderlecht have already been eliminated in the Belgian Cup. Genk defeated the Mauves and move on to the quarter finals.

Vandereycken's tactical plan worked perfect for Genk. They had a few excellent chances and scored 1-0 after a new mistake of Peersman. It' was Soetaers who beat him. Genk were the better team but Vandebergh forgot to double the score.

"We are giving away too much space", analysed Vanderhaeghe at half time. Vercauteren: "Genk are better, but we can certainly beat them."

Anderlecht scored immediatly in the second half through Aruna on a corner kick. But Genk reacted: Engelaar missed a chance, but he scored a few minutes later: 2-1.

Aruna slapped Mikulic in the face, but escaped from a red card. Anderlecht were knocked-out and couldn't create any more danger.
