Although Werder Bremen lost their match against FSV Mainz with 2-1, there's no reason for optimism for the match of Wednesday, according to Hugo Broos. Broos scouted the German champion, and was impressed.

"They didn't deserve to lose, they had the most chances", told the Anderlecht-coach. "They were sleeping at the second post, which caused the second goal. But it could have run different. I was waiting in the audience for the 0-2 and 0-3, but Mainz were playing very enthusiastically, the atmosphere in that small stadium was very impressive. And those teams often have all the luck."

"Of course we have a chance to win against Werder Bremen", said the coach. "But we will have to play on Champions League-level then. Bremen is a real German team. That means: a firm team, with little weak points. They are very good in their defence."
