Belgium beat Team USA yesterday on the World Cup after an exciting game. The Belgians developed a crushing pressure on the American defence, but goalkeeper Tim Howard kept his team standing.

The American intentions were clear from the start: defend and counter attack. Belgium on the other had immediately took control over the match and rapidly created chances. This was the story of the whole match. With 38 shots, 27 on target and 19 corner kicks, Belgium was clearly superior. Yet goalkeeper Howard also made 16 saves keeping Belgium from scoring. The times he was beating, his defenders and the crossbar helped him to keep the nil. The most dangerous attack from the USA came seconds before the end when Wondolowski appeared alone in front of Courtois, but the American missed.

At the start of the extra time Lukaku came onto the pitch for Origi and he immediately made the difference: he started a run on the wing, passed to De Bruyne who went past two defenders and scored: 1-0. Not much later, that same Lukaku scored himself and the game seemed over. But Team USA did not give up and scored 2-1 through Green. The Red Devils were clearly tired and the momentum was now with the Stars and Stripes. Belgium held on to the lead though and progress to the quarter finals to face Argentina.
