Anderlecht qualified as the third Belgian club for the next round of the Europa League. The Mauves beat Ajax with 1-3. With this victory, Anderlecht even win the group.
Anderlecht and Ajax both started well. The home side was slightly dominant though, without creating chances. But when Lukaku opened the score with a header on a free kick, Anderlecht took control over the game. The visitors relied on a solid defence and counter attacked swiftly through Lukaku. And that same Lukaku doubled Anderlecht's lead on a center of Legear. The Dutch tried to turn the tide, but wasn't focussed. They didn't come any further than a few free kicks. Short before the break, Legear scored a third Belgian goal after a series of blunders in the Ajax defence.
The second half began as expected, with some pressure from the Amsterdam based team. De jong and Pantelic had a few efforts on goal, but without any direct danger for Proto. Meanwhile, the Belgian visitors conserved energy for the clash with Brugge of next Sunday and kept doing so until the last minute. The best chance was for Mazuch though, with a good header saved by Stekelenburg. Ajax managed to take one back after all, with a nice shot from Emanuelson. But that was the best the Dutch could do, despite a ball of Rommedahl on the upright in the last minute. The score final score remained 1-3.
