In an official press release Jelle Van Damme reacted on the complaint Onyewu filed against him because of racism. The defender feels everything is out of proportion and emphasises he is no racist.

According to Van Damme also Onyewu said some things to him. The Anderlecht-defender says it’s normal things are said on a football field and you have to put is beside you after the last whistle-signal of the referee. He regrets what has happened and wants to make clear he isn’t a racist. Underneath you can read the official press release Van Damme made.

Press release:
"The lawyers of my club are going to study this case very calmly. I feel everything is blown up a bit. On a field a lot of things are shouted towards each other, certainly in games with such an importance. I think the fans know I intimidate a lot, although I know my limits. Onyewu also said things to me during the game, which were ridiculous as well and I don’t want to repeat them. I know this is part of a game, but for me it all ends when the referee whistles. I stay with what I first said to not react on this incident. Although I would like to emphasise I am no racist at all.
