The club has confirmed that Frank Vercauteren is no longer head coach. The two parties have mutually decided to end the agreement. The decision came after Anderlecht suffered its second defeat of the season last night.

Current assistant coach Ariël Jacobs will take over the function as head coach until the end of the season, said the club in a communiqué.

As far as the function of technical director is concerned, the club has yet to make a decision. The Anderlecht board will sit around the table with Frank Vercauteren later this season.

Frank Vercauteren had been appointed in Ferbruary 2005, when he took over the job from current Genk coach Hugo Broos. Vercauteren won league titles with the club in 2006 and 2007.

Missing out on the Champions League and the poor results this season have raised the pressure on the former Anderlecht winger. The second league defeat of the season against Germinal Beerschot last night was the last straw. Vercauteren is the second coach to be fired in the Belgian league this season. Valére Billen of Sint-Truiden preceded him.
