UEFA Cup draw: Against Tottenham and Getafe

Anderlecht have been drawn into balanced group for the UEFA Cup group phase. The team will face Tottenham, Getafe, Hapoel Tel-Aviv and Aalborg. The Mauves are playing in group G.


Tottenham Hotspur is a familiar face for Anderlecht. Both team faced eachother in the 1984 UEFA Cup final. The London team won by penalties. After securing 5th place in the last two seasons, Tottenham is currently ranked 17th in the Premier League which has elevated the pressure on coach Martin Jol. Well-known players are Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, Jermaine Jenas and ex-Racing Genk player Didier Zokora.

Getafe is currently second to last in the Primera Division. The team has won two points out of seven games. Argentine goalkeeper Abbondanzieri is the most well-known player of the Spanish squad. The team from Madrid narrowly beat Dutch team Twente to reach the UEFA Cup group phase.

Hapoel Tel Aviv is one of the biggest teams of Israel having won the title 13 times. They are currently ranked 5th after 5 games. Prominent players are Nigerian national goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and Brazilian Fábio Júnior. Hapoel reached the 16th final of the UEFA Cup last season where it last to Glasgow Rangers. Racing Genk's Barda, Ghent's Vermouth and Standard's Toama all played for the Israeli side until this season.

Finally there is the Danish side Aalborg aB. Currently fourth in the Danish league, they reached the UEFA Cup via the Intertoto competition in which it defeated AA Ghent. Aalborg defeated HJK Helsinki to reach the group phase. Most prominent player is Rade Prica.
