Chairman Vanden Stock wants to change the current form of the Belgian league. "I prefer being champion once in four years in a strong league over once every two years like it is now", he said.

"Hopefully everyone will wake up now and see we need to act. This is our last chance to save Belgian football. Our clubs can only progress if they can play against other top clubs more often."

Therefore Vanden Stock, wants to offer the smaller clubs a financial compensation if they agree to form a first division with only 14 clubs: "We can use the money from the TV-rights. I prefer a league with only 10 clubs, meeting each other four times per season. But 14 clubs and a play-off is feasible too."
