Anderlecht will need to defeat Rapid Wien if it wants to reach the group phase of the UEFA Cup. The club from Austria won its last game against SV Ried 0-3. Next weekend it will face Sturm Graz.


After eight games in the Austrian competition Rapid Wien leads with a total of 16 points. In 2005 the club won the Austrian championship, a title the club hadn't won since 1996. It last won the Austrian Cup in 1995.

Anderlecht rivals Club Bruges faced the team from Vienna in the 2005-2006 Champions League. Bruges won twice winning 0-1 and 3-2.

Coach of Rapid Wien is the Austrian Peter Pacult. The club is distinctly Austrian counting merely seven foreign players.

The club plays its home games in the Gerhard Hanappi Stadium which has a capacity of 17,500 spectators.
