Manager Van Holsbeeck is pleased with the club's latest acquisition: Cyril Théréau has returned to Belgium after a year-long spell in Romania. "Théréau will have to compete with Frutos and Tchité," said Van Holsbeeck.

"We've been looking for a skilled target-man for some time now and Théréau fits that profile," said Van Holsbeeck in the Flemish papers. But isn't Théréau second choice after the transfor of François Sterchele failed? "No, Sterchele did not seem to be eager to join Anderlecht, and we think Théréau is the better choice."

Anderlecht was not the only Belgian club pursuing the French striker. Club Bruges was close to a deal but the club from West-Flanders was turned away by the high transfer price. "2.9 million euro was too much for us as well," according to Van Holsbeeck. "Actually, the previous coach was not eager to see Théréau leave, but new coach Gheorghe Hagi showed more understanding for Théréau's situation. That lowered the price."

Cyril Théréau has said he is satisfied with the transfer as well and the striker is eager to fight for a place in the starting line-up. "This is the right step up at the right moment. I made progress in Bucharest, where I played the Champions League. I was slowed down a bit by a foot injury, but I still managed to score my share of the goals. I'm not afraid to compete with the other strikers. I'm eager to prove I'm worth a place in the starting line-up," said the French striker.
