It is no secret that Anderlecht has been eyeing François Sterchele. Now chairman Vanden Stock has admitted he is charmed by the topscorer. However, he is not willing to spend a huge sum on the Germinal Beerschot striker.

Germinal Beerschot has claimed its top striker is worth 4 million euro. Anderlecht is not eager to spend more than 2 million on Sterchele. "Last season we did spend a lot of cash, but at the time we had the means thanks to the transfers of Wilhelmsson and Kompany."

"Sterchele is not a priority for us at the moment. I'd rather focus on keeping the current squad together," said the Anderlecht chairman.

The fact that the Germinal Beerschot striker won't be satisfied with a spot on the bench plays a role as well. "We're certainly interested in Sterchele, but can we ask him to take a seat on the bench?" Vanden Stock wondered. "Here he has to compete with Frutos, Tchité, Mpenza and Mbokani for a place in the starting line-up."
