Anderlecht will continue for at least one more season with Frank Vercauteren as coach. Afterwards he will take on the function of technical director. This means the Anderlecht board remains to have faith in Vercauteren as coach.

Manager Van Holsbeeck explains: “For months there have been rumours about possible future Anderlecht coaches. Together with the chairman we wanted to make an end to those speculations. That is why we have chosen to renew Vercauteren’s contract, to give a signal of confidence.”

Yet despite sharing the top of the ranking together with Racing Genk, Anderlecht’s performances have been sub par this season. “That is correct,” agrees Van Holsbeeck. “We are at the top of the league yet the fans expect to see attractive games as well. So far we have seen too few of those.”

“We have decided to support Vercauteren unconditionally. The players still support the coach as well. I don’t see a reason why we should dismiss him,” concludes Herman Van Holsbeeck on Sporza radio.
