Yves Vanderhaeghe was very combative last week. He said that he has already beaten Totti and Figo and that the players of Milan probably would follow. The midfielder got a lot of comment on that.

“I only said it in the context of the game, to make clear that you don’t need to have too much respect for your opponents. You have to be ambitious”, reacts Vanderhaeghe.

“If you have less techniques and talent than your opponent, it’s important that you are physically ready. That doesn’t mean that I’m not fair. I received one yellow card last season, and that wasn’t because of a fault. That’s not much.”

“My opponents aren’t always nice to me too, I have broken my cheek bone once. But I’m not complaining, that’s part of the game. The comment doensn’t hurt me, but it’s not very nice for my family to read such things”, concludes Vanderhaeghe.
