After the painful defeat by Bayern Munich, there still are some heavy discussions in Anderlecht about the lightly awarded penalty. We collected reactions out of Belgium, Germany and from referee Nielsen.

"If I'm mean, I would say that this ref can whistle for sure on the World Championship of 2006", says chairman Roger Vanden Stock.
"We aren't powerful enough to undertake something. Our country has no key functions in the UEFA and that will turn against us. We are talking here about a penalty of 100 million Belgian franks, hey!"
"If this referee would dare to give such a penalty against Madrid or Bayern, his carreer would be finished."

Het Laatste Nieuws called referee Kim Milton Nielsen for a reaction.
"I don't know anything about the commotion in Belgium and can't say anything about this penalty officially. Zetterberg did get yellow, because of protest, and Baseggio asked me how much that I had gotten."
"Small countries disadvantaged? Crazy! If Vanden Stock thinks that, then that's his opinion. To me this was a match like any other. I often judge important matches."

Walter Baseggio: "I got a yellow card because I asked Nielsen how much he had gotten. In French and in English. Normally I stay calm, but now I really was too angry."
Pär Zetterberg: I told Nielsen in Swedish: "I find this ridiculous. If Bayern can't score, you don't have to help them. I repeted that a few times."
Michal Zewlakow: "Did you ever see what happens before a corner kick? Then you can give ten penalties. Pizarro said laughing to me in half time: "That's football, boy." This penalty I will remember for the rest of my life."

Also in Germany the decisive penalty is thé hot potatoe.
The sports paper Bild talks about an "early Christmass gift".
"Making in to the second round by a doubtable penalty is a terrifying fact", says Münchner Merkur.
"If Bayern wins the CL later, nobody will talk about Wednesday. And it's better like that", according to Abendzeitung.
Bayern chairman Franz Beckenbauer: "What I saw in the second half from Bayern, had nothing to do with football." And about the penalty: "Very royal gift. Not every referee will judge like that."
