Coach Frankie Vercauteren was not confident about the cup match against Geel before the game. He wrote on the blackboard: "Pay attention! Denderleeuw and Ingelmunster!"

Anderlecht had previously lost in the Belgian cup against those two teams. After the game, Frankie Vercauteren was very clear: "What I saw today, was no surprise to me. In a negative way. Some players had the chance today to proove that they are ready to play in the first team. And they did not grab that chance. We played a very poor match, the worst game since I am coach in Anderlecht. For some players, this was their last chance. I will draw my conclusions. We have to go for the title now."

Also manager Herman Van Holsbeeck was very unhappy with the performance and the result. "This cannot be possible. Where were the players who are asking for a chance all of the time? This is the ideal moment to reduce our squad. Tioté was the only player who was worth the attention."
