Reactions after the draw

Trainer Franky Vercauteren wished for Bayern, Ajax and Thün. He got Chelsea, Betis and Liverpool in stead. This is probably the hardest draw possible. Vercauteren thinks the Mauves won't have a good chance for qualifying.


Vercauteren: "This is the worst draw possible. We have to be realistic. It has the former and probably the future winner in it. And Real Betis is a topclub in Spain. It will be difficult. I really don't dare to think about the second or third place."

"The first match is on the field of Chelsea. That could be bad for the moral in the group, but we have nothing to loose. Everyone thinks they'll win."

Vincent Kompany believes in a stunt. "But we have to realise that we meet the best opponents possible."

"We are motivated and believe in it, but it will be almost impossible. It's nice though that we meet all these big teams. We have to try something from our underdog possition. We have to try to qualify, but almost everybody will be happy with a 3rd place."

Bart Goor: "We start with the most difficult match. The team should try to win a few home games and of course do better than last year."
