From the season 2005-2006 on, fans who want to visit games of the First and the Second League and European matches don't need to purchase a fancard to buy tickets any longer.

The Counsil of Ministers have accepted a bill of law by minister of Foreign Affairs Patrick Dewael. As a result, the fancard is not necessary anymore.

The card was used to repress violence at football matches. With the fancard, the authorities were able to know about everyone who bought tickets and to identify hooligans. The system caused a lot of criticism and frustration.
