YOUTH Four years after he left Anderlecht at the age of 19, Milan Corryn wants to return to Belgium. Speaking to Voetbalkrant, the midfielder says he was too impatient at the time. "After three years with the U21, I wanted more."

It was a remarkable transfer: at the end of August 2018, Corryn left Anderlecht for an adventure at Trencin in Slovakia. He stayed there for three seasons and last summer moved to Warta Pozen in Poland on a transitional basis.

At the age of 16, Corryn moved up to the U21 team at Anderlecht. In the summer of 2017 he was allowed to participate in the preparation of the A-team and he impressed in a friendly game against Dender. Yet the big step forward did not happen. So he left. "If I had chosen the money, I would have just stayed," he tells us now. "I could and was allowed to stay. They even promised me that I could train with the first team. But after three years with the U21, I wanted more. As a result, I chose that new adventure."

A decision that he now wonders if it was the right one. "Regret is not the right word, but I do think I would have handled it differently now," Corryn said. "Three weeks after my transfer Anderlecht started to turn everything around. Because of the financial problems a lot of youth players suddenly got their chance in the first team. Also after the arrival of Vincent Kompany Anderlecht drew the card of youth."

"What would my career have looked like if I had stayed with purple and white? There is little point in speculating about that," Corryn concludes.
