OTHER Vincent Kompany did not attend the mandatory press conference after the match on Sunday. "We were called out for brown monkey for a whole match", the Anderlecht coach said. Not wanting to make it a personal conflict with Club Brugge, Kompany headed home with his staff, devastated.
Kompany reacted briefly during a flash interview after the match by saying that he didn't think the match was important anymore after Brugge supporters had been scolding the staff, players and Kompany with racist insults throughout the match. Kompany realized that of course things are shouted during games, but he was very upset by the humiliating reception from the Brugge crowd. Not wanting this to escalate into a personal conflict with Bruges, he chose not to attend the press briefing.
Club Brugge coach Clement said that he had not heard the insults, but strongly condemned the statements: "I as a person and the whole of Club Brugge will always condemn the behavior of those few".
