GAMES Anderlecht beat Antwerp yesterday with 1-4 and take the fourth place in the ranking with 52 points. Genk remain third with 53 points and Antwerp are second with 54 points. Ostend, Anderlecht's biggest competitor for a place in play-off 1, lost. With two games remaining, Anderlecht are now three points ahead of Ostend.
Anderlecht and Antwerp played a rather uninteresting first half. The visitors from Brussels were clearly the better team. They took control over the match and had a few chances through Ashimeru and Trebel with efforts from outside the box. Verschaeren had a good opportunity, but he couldn't deviate the ball against the net. Nmecha came the closest to scoring: his effort was saved by goalkeeper De Wolf with a spectacular save. Refaelov had the only chance for Antwerp in the first half, that ended on 0-0.
The second half was far more exciting. Anderlecht had come to win and had a perfect opportunity to take the lead when Jordan Lukaku brought down Sambi Lokonga in the box. Nmecha took the penalty but De Wolf saved.
One minute later, Anderlecht scored anyway: Nmecha was faster than his defenders on the left flank, passed to Ashimeru who scored with a well placed shot in the lower right corner: 0-1. Antwerp reacted through Batubinsika, but Cobbaut saved his effort on the goal line. On the other side, Murillo doubled the lead: at the second post, he deviated a corner kick into the goal: 0-2. Anderlecht kept creating chances now, but the final pass often failed. That didn't stop the Mauves from scoring a third though: Ait El Hadj curled the ball from outside the box around keeper De Wolf into the upper right corner: 0-3. Verschaeren even made a fourth goal after a nice attack over the right wing: 0-4.
At the very last seconds, Antwerp eventually scored the 1-4: Le Marchand scored in the rebound. Mbokani even came close to scoring 2-4, but Cobbaut cleared his effort from the goal line. Final score: 1-4.
