Kompany and Vercauteren build on the team that turned out well to stop the competition. Doku and (to a lesser extent) Amuzu played very good on the wings. Vlap found his place as number 10 and with his infiltrations he caused a lot of danger and goals. In the meantime, Verschaeren recovered from the injury he sustained at Standard in December.

During the past friendly games, Anderlecht usually played with a team that may well be the type team at the start of the season. Vlap, Doku and Amuzu had their place in this. Verschaeren then had to play with what we can conveniently call the 'substitutes'. Is this a sign?

The fact is that Verschaeren will have to do his best to recapture his place. He does not have the flashes of Doku and Amuzu and the efficiency of Vlap. And let the latter just be needed as long as the deep striker does not easily find the way to goal. To drop Vlap and Verschaeren together in the team, Kompany and Vercauteren will have to abandon their intended game system with fast wingers.

Despite everything, Verschaeren remains the goldman of this Anderlecht together with Doku. Sporty, but also financially. The Anderlecht top is counting on Verschaeren to bring in millions in the next years. Euros that a club should not miss in financially heavy times.
