INTERVIEWS - OTHER Following the death of Georges Floyd, Anderlecht CEO, Karel Van Eetvelt, says his club wants to lead the fight against racism. "In fact, I think it's even more important to work in than os sports," says Van Eetvelt.

"I have come to realize, also in sports, that we have not yet learned that there several millions people living in the world and that, despite different backgroudns and cultures, they are all the same," Van Eetvelt begins in 'De Tribune' on Radio 1.

"When I think of Jesse Owens and Mexico '68, I see relatively little progress. Look at the recent events, also on the soccer fields and in the stadiums. I discussed it today with Vincent (Kompany, ed.). What he said about even in the last few months... Actually, we sould all be ashamed that it still exists here. A lot of people can't put themselves in someone else's shoes."

"Raise and inform your own fans"

In fact, I think it's even more importante works on that than on sports things", says Van Eetvelt. And then he wants to take action. "We also have to educate everyone involved in Anderlecht if they need to."

"Songs that have a certain racist tone are not absolutely possible. I understand that some peopel think differently or consider some things non-racist or offensive, but then it is up to us as a club to educate our own fans and provide information. We have to make it clear what is possible and what is not possible in a stadium".

"Invest in diversity if you want to develop"

Van Eetvelt realizes that diversity in soccer is an issue. "The top of football is the world of whites. If you want to develop as sport and as a club, you have to invest in diversity. Then you will progress much faster. Then I am talking about diversity, but also about cultural diversity".

Despite good intentions, actions are not yet for tomorrow. "I want to make a big effort, but currently I don't have a master plan to launch," conclude Van Eetvelt.
