GAMES After Sunday's optimism, Anderlecht are back on their feet again. After a difficult game, the Purple & White played a 0-0 draw at Antwerp. With 27 points still to be earned, Anderlecht is now seven points behind the Play-Off 1 places.
From the beginning, Antwerp demonstrated its good and offensive intentions. It put Anderlecht under great pressure and that soon resulted in ball loss of Van Crombrugge. Kompany relieved the leather for the upcoming Mbokani. The two kings fought a match in the match. Sometimes spicy, but always fair and above all of a level that transcends the Belgian competition.
Also after the opening minutes the number four from the ranking showed that it wanted to close 2019 in place two. However, this did not offer great opportunities. Partly because Lamkel Zé failed to use the space on the right wing of Anderlecht. On the other hand, Anderlecht also failed to get out. 0-0 halfway was not illogical.
The second half started less intense than the first. Just past the hour, Vercauteren brought in Kayembe to replace Chadli and to bring more certainty in the team. Immediately afterwards we saw the biggest chance of the match. Kompany slipped away, but Mbokani, further firmly in the back pocket of the Anderlecht-captain, missed the giant chance. A few minutes later, an apparently harmless shot by Sambi Lokonga hit the bar.
So, Anderlecht booked its seventh scoreless draw in 21 games. The gap with the number six in the stand, now KV Mechelen, is seven points. Next appointment: Sunday, January 19 for Club Brugge - Anderlecht.
