GAMES The Belgian Cup will not save Anderlecht's season. The Purple & White lost 0-2 to a superior Club Brugge. A solid, mature and good-looking Club showed itself to be the better of the young, searching Anderlecht in all aspects of the game.
From the first whistle, Club wanted to show that it is the best team in the country. It pushed Anderlecht against the own goal, won all the duels and also had chances. Anderlecht didn't keep up and counted on a strong Van Crombrugge. As the first half progressed, the Purple & White grew in the match. There were opportunities, but Vlap and Roofe made the wrong choices. At the half hour, Roofe had the best chance of the first half, but his header went wide.
Club Brugge started the second half like the first: with a lot of pressure to the front. This time with success. The ball ended at Vormer, who kicked the 0-1 in the volley against the ropes. Two minutes later, Anderlecht escaped the double deficit when Vanaken finished too weakly and Van Crombrugge came to the rescue. On the hour the 0-2 was on the board when Balanta headed a corner kick from Vormer hard past Van Crombrugge.
Vercauteren responded by bringing Chadli for a pale Vlap. Five minutes later, the coach threw in an additional striker with Thelin for Kayembe. The biggest, and actually only, chance fell on the other side: Deli hit the post through the back of Sambi Lokonga and Cobbaut's hand. Then it was counting down to the last whistle.
