INTERVIEWS After the first matchday, Sebastiaan Bornauw left Anderlecht for FC Keulen. Although his last match was not his best, the defender left with a good feeling. "Vincent Kompany told me to take the step."

Bornauw said he knew of German interest before the game against Ostend. "They wanted to rent me with a purchase option, but Anderlecht did not want that", said Bornauw last weekend in De Zondag. Bornauw against Mouscron was missing the weekend after. Many saw this as a punishment for his bad match against Ostend, but that is not true. "It only had to do with my transfer. In the meantime, Cologne had made an offer that Anderlecht could not refuse."

Before he made his decision, Bornauw first spoke with Kompany. "He was my big idol and I was looking forward to playing next to him," says Bornauw. But Kompany advised him to accept the offer. "He said" I talk to you as a friend and not as a coach: if you can go to the Bundesliga, you have to do that. I learned the most there. "

"I think there is a physical problem"

Why did Anderlecht only get 2 in 15 in its first five matches? "I think the problem is physical," the defender said. "I don't believe that the condition is neglected, but we did not run much. Kompany's football requires a lot of training with the ball. You can expect experienced players to run individually, but youngsters do that less."

"At Ostend I also felt that I was tired," admits Bornauw. "Although that may be because of the European Championship. I only had a week and a half preparation. Last week against Dortmund I felt physically stronger."

"I continue to believe in Kompany's project"

Bornauw also follows Anderlecht closely after his departure. "I have seen most matches and I remain a believer of Kompany's project. It only needs some time and minor adjustments. And a striker. I still have contact with a number of players and I notice that they remain calm ", said Bornauw before the win against Standard.

Bornauw is confident that Anderlecht will be fine in the long term. "It will not be an easy season, but if Kompany can learn from the mistakes and they can keep this group together, Anderlecht will destroy everything next season."
