Smith first City player for Anderlecht?

TRANSFERS According to Het Nieuwsblad, Anderlecht are investigating whether it can borrow one or more players from Manchester City. It is mainly thinking of youth products that are ready for a step higher, but not yet for the Premier League. The first name that falls is the one of 19-year-old Matthew Smith.


Smith is a defensive midfielder who played on a rental basis at Twente last season. With the Tukkers he won the title in the Dutch second division. Smith started 34 of the 38 games in the starting eleven. He scored twice and gave two assists.

On May 29 last year, Smith made his debut as an 18-year-old for the National Team of Wales. In the meantime, he has four caps. During the last international match on 24 March he played the full 90 minutes. That was the European Championship qualifier against Slovakia.
