INTERVIEWS Alexis Saelemaekers has to earn his place again under Fred Rutten. Like everyone in the team and that has a positive influence according to Saelemaekers. The many assignments that Hein Vanhaezebrouck gave his players over time were too much.


"Rutten has given us the confidence and that was necessary because that was lacking in the past few months," Saelemaekers is honest, "For him it's all about the result. We no longer play football in function of the opponent. we like that."

"That was the problem with Vanhaezebrouck in the end, he had his tactics and did not abandon it, there was confusion between the players and the coach and that was what you saw on the field.".

"But for me personally, he was the ideal trainer to make my debut with the first team," continues Saelemaekers, "He also talked to me, sometimes after a game to analyze some phases of a match. He also did that with other youngsters, he is one of the people who helped me the most in my development as a footballer. "
