YOUTH Now that one youngster after another breaks through in the first team of Anderlecht we went to see who is still in the waiting room of Neerpede. Today: the generation of '97 and Kobe Cools.

The generation of '99 breaks through completely. It is difficult for the older players to take a place in the first team. From the year '97 Youri Tielemans was the absolute top talent. From that year, only one is still playing for Anderlecht: Kobe Cools.

Cools was on the bench once in the Jupiler Pro League. In November of last year against Mouscron. Afterwards he disappeared from the picture and in the meantime he was passed in the hierarchy by the younger Sebastiaan Bornauw, Hannes Delcroix and Abdoul Karim Dante.

Cools is still under contract with Anderlecht for two years. What does the future bring to him?

Cools is not too fast and agile and he makes mistakes. It is clear that he has now lost the battle against Bornauw, Delcroix and Dante. In addition, Jerko Guldix ('00), Lukas Lissens ('01) and Killian Sardella ('02) also provide him with the necessary competition.

Cools was in the first league game of the reserves in the starting eleven. He is used as a leader of the very young promises team. But it is clear that Anderlecht will probably not be difficult if another first division team wants to take him over.

Tomorrow: the 1998 generation
