TRANSFERS An eye-catching construction: Wolverhampton first rents Leander Dendoncker for a season and buys it mandatory next year. Why is Wolverhampton obliged to set up this construction and why does Anderelcht go with this?

Although the English clubs have lots of money, they also have to comply with the Financial Fair Play rules. They are not allowed to spend more than they get in. Wolverhampton spent seventy million euros this year on transfers. Because the club played in the second division during the past seasons, it does not get the same generous TV money as the other clubs in the Premier League. To get Dendoncker, it had to be creative. A loan with compulsory purchase.

But why did Anderlecht agree? After a failed season, the interest in Dendoncker was not too big. Let alone that interested clubs came up with beautiful transfer fees. By accepting the bid from Wolverhampton, Coucke and Devroe still reassured themselves of some 15 million euros. Only this money will be on the account next season.

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Anderlecht already receive one million euros for the loan. Next year, 13.5 million euros will be added. Het Laatste Nieuws speaks of a sale amount of 14 million euros that will be paid into the Anderlecht account at the end of 2019.
