WEBSITE Anderlecht has sent a lot of players on loan during the past season. Now that the season is over, we took some time to see how the season went for them and what we can expect from them next season. Today: Wout Faes.

Age: 20
Contract until: 30 June 2021
Played last season for: Excelsior in the Dutch Eredivisie
Games played 19
Minutes played: 1573

Wout Faes exchanged the youth of Lierse for Anderlecht in 2012. Two years later, despite the interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, he signed a first professional contract with Anderlecht.

From the 2015-2016 season, the 'Belgian David Luiz' trained regularly with Anderlecht's first team, but minutes of play were not immediately in sight. In January 2017, Faes moved to Heerenveen on loan. In the Eredivisie he was able to force seven places in the starting eleven immediately.

Last season he was on loan to Excelsior, also from the Eredivisie. He started the first three games of the season in the starting line-up, but only started three times in the rest of the first round.

Chris Tempelman, Excelsior follower for Voetbal International, told us about this in an interview with this site: "At the end of August Excelsior renewed the loan of PSV defender Jordy de Wijs. He is a very good defender, incomprehensible that PSV does not give him a chance . " Due to the return of De Wijs, Faes lost his place. "Together with Jurgen Mattheij, De Wijs forms a strong central duo, forming the basis for the strong first months of Excelsior, but when Wout played, he never failed, and his coach is also very pleased with the eager of Faes."

In February De Wijs, however, had a meniscus injury. Faes benefited and played just about everything until the end of the season, so he eventually came to nineteen league games this season.

At the end of February Faes showed himself in an interview with this site very happy about his loan to Excelsior: "Besides the games I also learn a lot from training. I work here with a coach who really believes in me and is very busy with me. I feel very good here. I get a lot of training from coach Mitchell van der Gaag and that is reflected in the games. Because I learn so much during training, I never thought about leaving in the winter break, even though I often sat on the bench during the first round. "

In the same interview Faes stated that he would like to get his chance at Anderlecht in the preparation for the new season, but due to Marc Coucke's statements, a new loan seems a better option. At Excelsior they will probably be able to use him well through the (probable) departure of De Wijs (back to PSV) and Mattheij (probably a step higher up). Also a reunification with van der Gaag, who goes to NAC Breda, is one of the possibilities.

At Anderlecht it is currently very unclear what the defense will look like. A stable season with a Belgian or Dutch first division seems ideal to prepare Faes for Anderlecht.
