Official: Cobbaut is an Anderlecht player

TRANSFERS Anderlecht have officially announced the transfer of Elias Cobbaut. The 20-year-old defender of KV Mechelen will join the retiring national champion until mid-2023. We would like to introduce the new Anderlecht player to you.


Cobbaut is a true youth product of KV Mechelen. Besides two years with Racing Mechelen, he played his whole youth for the "Maneblussers". In those two years at Racing he played as a 16-year-old one game in third division.

At KV Mechelen, Cobbaut made his debut on August 13, 2016 in the first division. At home against Kortrijk he was allowed to enter five minutes before time. During the competition he fell in three times and he was three times in the starting eleven. The big breakthrough came during Play-Off II last season. Yannick Ferrera then made him start in nine out of the ten games.

This season Cobbaut continued that line. 28 times he played the full game, one time he fell in and once he stayed on the bench. The defender took five yellow cards and scored once, at Mouscron.

In September, Cobbaut made his debut with the national U21. Since then he has played four international games, each time completely, and he stayed on the bench twice.
