Anderlecht gave Arsenal a taste of their own medicine this evening. The Belgian champions made a legendary Champions League comeback and take one point home from London.

Anderlecht had to do without key player Steven Defour. American international Kljestan replaced him and played an excellent first half. Kljestan was dangerous on the counter attack. Unfortunately Cyriac forgot to pass back to the American midfielder after a fast combination and the chance was lost. Not much later Kljestan himself found goalkeeper Szczesny on his way to the goal. Anderlecht had taken a good start, but Arsenal slowly took control with good combination football. Sanchez came close to scoring but his effort hit the upright. When Mbemba went into a duel with Welbeck, the referee put the ball on the penalty spot. Arteta scored the lightly awarded penalty.

The Londen based club now had full control and went looking for a second goal. Sanchez managed to double the lead with a hard effort following on a free kick. Also after the break Arsenal continued looking for a goal. Kljestan lost the ball on the midfield and Oxlade-Chamberlain scored: 3-0.

All seemed lost for the Belgian champions, but when Kawaya (brought into play by Hasi) dribbled past the English defence, his centre found Vanden Borre in front of the goal and he scored (from an offside position). The visiting fans, who had come to London in huge numbers, encouraged their team and Anderlecht started playing with more confidence. Kljestan lifted the ball over the entire defence and Mitrovic was pulled down in the box. Vanden Borre took the resulting penalty: 3-2.

Arsenal lurked on the counter attack to finish off the match, but they got a taste of their own medicine. A centre reached Mitrovic who headed the ball past the Arsenal goalie in the last minute: 3-3. The Mauves made a historical comeback in London. One that has rarely been seen in the Champions League.
