In a press conference, Anderlecht confirmed that John Van den Brom has been sacked. Yesterday, it already became clear that the Dutchman would be sacrificed for the bad performance of his team.

Today that news was made official. Van den Brom was already informed, but the club waited to make an official statement until chairman Vanden Stock had returned from his holiday. Van den Brom's discharge is logical: with 9 defeats in 29 games, he led Anderlecht to their worst performance in 16 years. His start, two years ago, was refreshing. He brought many youngsters into the team with success. But soon, the quality declined. He won the title last year, but had to play until the last matchday for it, despite a large head-start at the beginning of the play-offs. From then on, his team never played good football again. Besides the 9 defeats in the league, he was also eliminated in the Cup by a second division club and only obtained one single point in a weak Champions League campaign.

Besnik Hasi will take over Van den Brom's tasks. This is a risk for both the club and Hasi. Hasi has no experience in being head coach. Though he has been assistant coach in Anderlecht for a long time. He also knows the club since he played many years for the Mauves and is well respected by the players and staff. His first task will be winning against KV Oostende.

Geert Emmerechts, T3 until now, will become assistant coach. Video analyst Bart Meert takes the free position of T3.
