Anderlecht lowered the gap with Standard by three points yesterday. The Mauves won against Racing Genk with 2-0, while Standard were beaten by Club Bruges. Anderlecht are now more firmly third since Zulte-Waregem only took 1 point

Coach Van den Brom started with another (unsuccessful) experiment: he placed central defender Mbemba on the midfield. During the whole first half, Anderlecht would not be able to create one decent chance. Shots from Gillet and Najar were the only danger worth mentioning. On the other side, Buffel came close to scoring but his effort was not powerful enough.

During half time, Mbemba was replaced for Vargas. The team showed more creativity and immediately pushed Genk back. Chances followed, yet Anderlecht needed a blunder from Cissé to score. He lost to ball to Mitrovic who could storm towards goalkeeper Van Hout. The striker scored via the post. In the next 10 minutes, that same Mitrovic forgot to finish off Genk completely. Twice he was sent deep, but he allowed the visiting defenders to return and eventually lost the ball.

When Kara stepped on Mitrovic' knee, ten minutes before the end, he got red. Genk, that could not create any danger at all, were now completely knocked-out. In injury time, Pollet doubled the lead after a good combination through the heart of Genk's defence. Pollet had only been on the field for two minutes, replacing Mitrovic.
