Anderlecht
The Anderlecht-based club is this season competing the Jupiler Pro League at the domestic front, whereas the Rene Weiler’s men are also fighting for international glory in the UEFA Europa League.

Paars-wit
Known for their classic purple and white kits, Anderlecht are also known as Paars-wit in Dutch and Les Mauves et Blancs in French.
Five European trophies given value and credit for the claim that Anderlecht are arguable the biggest Belgian club of all, while 33 championship wins are seemingly the ultimate proof. Anderlecht are to this date holding a record of most consecutive Belgian championship titles – the total of nine of them – won in the late 60s.
In addition to their successful league exploits, Anderlecht are holding nine Belgian Cup trophies as well.
The Belgium greats were founded in 1908 and cherish a great history as a club which have been continuously playing in the first division since 1935. Their Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Anderlecht is a home for little over 28,000 fans, who are known as arguably the most notorious ones in Belgium.

Jupiler Pro League
Also known as the Belgian First Division, the Jupiler Pro League was officially renamed following the 2015-16 season from the Belgian Pro League.
The Belgium championship is contested by 16 clubs, which are competing in a system of promotion and regulation and during a season which usually runs from late July to early May.
The regular part of the season is followed by the title play-offs, which see 6 clubs playing each other twice, whereas the other part of the play-offs – also known as the Europa League playoff – is contested among the players ranked 7th to 15th which are divided in two groups of 6 and joined by three teams from the Belgian First Division B.
Those teams also play each other twice in a system which was radically changed with playoffs introduced back in 2009-10 season.
Interestingly, it was exactly Anderlecht who won the first championship in the new format.
The current system was once again changed in 2015, when the relegation playoff was scrapped, leaving the 16th-placed club directly relegated and the 15th-placed added to the aforementioned Europa League playoff.

Anderlecht vs Zenit
Anderlecht joined the UEFA Europa League through the playoff promotion in 2016-17 season, having beaten Slavia Praha 6-0 on aggregate to join the Group Stage.
Having successfully gone through another challenge, the Purple and Whites will be facing Russian giants Zenit Saint Petersburg in a tie which will see two former UEFA Cup winners collide in the round of 32.
Both Anderlecht and Zenit have been rather prolific in the group stages of the competition. The first tie will be played at Constant Vanden Stock Stadium in Anderlecht where Anderlecht have bagged 14 goals in five European matches thus far in the campaign and the Belgium heavyweights will undoubtedly be looking to prepare a spectacle for the fans in addition to making it one more step closer to European glory.
The forthcoming February duel will be the fifth meeting between the two sides, with Zenit currently having the upper hand by winning three and losing one of the four games thus far.
