Anderlecht took a bad start in the playoffs by losing 1-2 against Racing Genk. The Mauves dominated the whole game, but the visitors were to be more efficient and scored two goals out of two chances.

Anderlecht took a good start and created a whole lot of chances in the first half hour. The offensive only produced one goal when Nuytinck headed the ball against the net. Genk were lucky to reach half time with just a 1-0 score on the scoreboard.

Anderlecht continued their offensive after the break, but could not score. In ten minutes time, the Limburg club changed the game. On two free kicks they scored and brought the score to 1-2.

The Mauves had to recover from this mental blow and eventually started a new offensive, leading to a penalty a few minutes before the end. Nuytinck took it and ... missed. That way the game ended in a 1-2 defeat.
