Witsel: "Hopefully Wasyl will accept my hand"

Anderlecht is to meet Zenit in the Champions League, which means Wasilewski is to meet Axel Witsel on the pitch. "I will try and give Marcin my hand, and hopefully he'll accept", says Witsel.


"Apart from the situation with Wasilewski, this will be a game like any other I've played", he says.

Witsel's father jumps in: "It was an accident, he never meant to hurt Marcin. We tried to contact Anderlecht and the player not long after the incident, but we were rejected twice."

"But the UEFA rules state that all players are to shake hands before the game. Axel will reach out, and Marcin has the right to refuse, but the consequences will be his. Remember when Luis Suarez refused to shake hands with Patrick Evra? Wel..."
