"Extreme make-over" for Anderlecht's defence

John Van den Brom discovered a new right back: Guillaume Gillet. In the game against Genk, defender Odoi was replaced and Gillet took his place. "I never saw a defender in Gillet, but also a coach can be wrong", Van den Brom said.


Also last season, under coach Jacobs, Gillet had to play on this position now and then. "I don't like playing on the right back, but if the coach asks me to do so, I will. I also take this place in the national team", Gillet reacted.

In the upcoming weeks, Anderlecht's defence might look a whole lot different. Kouyate seems certain of his place at the back. Newcomer Nuytinck will most likely play next to him. On the right back, Van den Brom will have three options: Odoi, Wasilewski and Gillet. Odoi seems to have squandered his chances with several bad performances. Gillet and Wasyl are two totally different types of players. Depending on the opponent, Van den Brom might pick one of them. On the other side, Deschacht got the advantage over Safari for now. But Deschacht got injured at the shoulder, so Safari might have a new chance to prove what he's worth.
