Salzburg coach Ralph Rangnick explains how, at the end of last season, he had the chance to become coach of Anderlecht, but had to decline. "The key players of Anderlecht are too old for the kind of football I want to play."

"In London, there were two conversations with Anderlecht manager Herman Van Holsbeeck. They were very interesting and I got to explain to him how I felt about coaching Anderlecht."

"The kind of football I want to bring is based on high pressure and speed, which requires a very young team," he goes on. "When we were in our first year Bundesliga with Hoffenheim, the average age of the team was not even 22."

"And so I told Herman that for my kind of play, the key players of Anderlecht were already too old. This was not the right time for me to move to Brussels, but that doesn't mean there's no future for us."
