What if?

OTHER Sunday will be a crucial match for coach Besnik Hasi. What will happen if he has to go? Who will take over his position? Het Nieuwsblad listed some possible scenario's.

Scenario 1: Internal solution

Most time a head coach is being sacked, his assistants are taking over his position. However, the Anderlecht board did not put a strong assistant coach next to Hasi. Geert Emmerechts and Mo Ouachbi do not seem ready to take over Hasi's role. Emmerechts does not have enough authority and it seems unlikely Anderlecht will continue working with him. Ouahbi does not have enough experience to take the lead of the first team. Maybe Nicolas Frutos? He has only been coach of the U21 for two months and still has a lot to learn. Anderlecht probably will not take the risk to lose Frutos should he be unsuccessful.

Scenario 2: An interim coach

Chelsea showed the example for this: Guus Hiddink is taking over until the end of the season. An experienced coach who can make the difference, but there are only limited possibilities. Aimé Antheunis and Johan Boskamp are unacceptable for most fans. Ariel Jacobs has health problems and also Morten Olson is not a guarantee for success.

Scenario 3: A big name

This is an unlikely scenario. A big name probably will not have the courage to put his reputation at risk in the play-offs.

Scenario 4: A young coach

Former player Yannis Anastasiou would love to take over Anderlecht for two months.
Johan Walem claims he has the Anderlecht style, but as he has recently been sacked at Kortrijk this might not be good publicity for him.

Conclusion

Manager Van Holsbeeck will have a tough time if he has to sack Besnik Hasi. It would be better for the board if Hasi stayed until the end of the season. If that does not work out, Van Holsbeeck should have enough experience to find a replacement.
