Anderlecht beat Westerlo yesterday with 1-2. The Mauves are now four points ahead of AA Gent, Cercle Brugge and Club Brugge, that lost in Kortrijk. As the scoreline already suggests, it wasn't an easy win for the Brussels' team.

Anderlecht started furiously with two good chances in the first three minutes via Canesin, who was in the starting line-up instead of Suarez. But then the pace dropped and Westerlo saw their chance to slowly grow into the game. After 30 minutes, Dekelver centered for De Petter who was left alone at the second post and he scored: 1-0.

The Mauves reacted in the second half. Suarez replaced Canesin and the Argentinian immediately created some danger. Though the home-side focussed on defending and couldn't really threaten Proto anymore. But Anderlecht's play wasn't creative enough and chances of Westerlo taking the three points increased with the minute. Coach Jacobs then replaced Kljestan for Vargas and defender Deschacht for De Sutter. The pressure increased and on a header of Juhasz, the ball deflected on Wils and went in.

With eight minutes left to play, Anderlecht now saw victory within reach. Westerlo, tired after being under constant pressure, slowly collapsed and gave away chances. Gillet headed the Mauves to a narrow escape in the last minute: 1-2.
