OTHER The board of directors of RSC Anderlecht decided not to move to the new Eurostadium. The club stated this in a message to the press earlier today: "Under the current terms, we decided not to move to the Eurostadium."

Earlier this year, Anderlecht and Ghelamco, who will build the stadium, came to an agreement after long and difficult negotiations. The biggest problem was the high price Anderlecht had to pay to play in the stadium. On top of that, the club needed to make a commitment for the next 30 years.

Right now, Anderlecht's directors board, decided not to sign this agreement. The club cannot live with the current terms. It would be too expensive for Anderlecht. On top of that, there are still many uncertainties in Ghelamco's offer. Therefore the club decided not to go through with a move to the new stadium, under the current terms.

Most likely, this is a manoeuvre to put pressure on Ghelamco to get a better deal. There is a lot of pressure on the company to build this stadium by 2020. And also Belgium cannot afford to explain to the UEFA that Brussels, the European capital, has no stadium for the European Championship of that year. So it's likely there will be a new Eurostadium. And since the stadium is not viable without Anderlecht playing in it, it's also likely the club will sooner or later reach a new agreement with Ghelamco. But nothing is certain of course... Meanwhile, the club has the permission to enlarge the current stadium to 30.000 seats. So there is a backup plan.
