The European football league UEFA will experiment with two extra referees. This way they will try to reduce the discussions concerning decisions made by the ref.

The two extra referees will both stand behind a goal to pay attention on what happens in the box and near the goal. They won’t get a flag, but are in connection with the other referees through a transmitter. When the whole game moves to the other side of the field, they are allowed to step on the field.

"This is something totally new,” says referee Johan Verbist in Het Nieuwsblad. “We’ve got clear directions and also talked about it on training. It’ll be totally different than leading the game itself. We’ll have to get used to it. Whether it will be a good solution? We’ll have to wait and see.”
