The consequences of the Cup elimination

After the elimination in the Cup, Jan Polak and Mbark Boussoufa apologised: "We're sorry", they said. "We weren't focused and we only have the title left to save our season."


"The fans were hoping on the double, certainly with Brugge and Standard eliminated for the Cup. But Mechelen did well and we had a bad day. Sorry to the fans!"

But the elimination will also have consequences on the team. Chairman Vanden Stock explains: "We have 26 players in our first team. There are only 17 games left now. We also lost extra income not that we're not in the Cup anymore. We want to keep our best players, but only 8 of them are certain of a place in the team. We'll have to sell a few others."
